“The Legend of a Nervous Man” by Giorgio Rayzacher
Original title: La leggenda di un uomo nervoso
An amazing plot, set in a terrible environment and awful society, but both so real.
Fear, queer ties and connections, treasons, murders... and love.
What – or who – is the Stundemanns’ malediction? By passing the reading, the mistery will be clarified, starting with Yoris Stundemann’s secret . Yoris is unpleasant-natured: a selfish, jalous, unsensitive father, but so faithful to his wife he loves so deeply... He cannot escape his fate, he does embody human existance’s contraddictions. On the contrary, his son Bradis, such as Aedipus, is used to play and betray with women he meets. And, most of all, he get them hurted with intent. That is to revenge his own childhood injury. He knows Time is going through quickly. Time does not wait for anyone, and Bradis is frightened by illness and old age: his actions have to do with this awareness. Bradis is just trying to stop Time’s walk.
The novel’s main characters live in a contradictory world, black and white. They are full of contraddictions themselves. Victims and murderers at the same time, nice and awful, loving and revenging.
This is a sort of legend about human mind’s different and monstrous sides.
This is a great novel, written with a terrific passion, from an unusual point of view: such as in previous works, the author reveals here again his own great visionary skills.
Girogio Rayzacher was born in Warsaw from an Italian mother and a Polish father. He is the author of two novels.
